Portrait #013 - UJ Ramdas
PHOTOGRAPHER: Darius Bashar
MODEL: UJ Ramdas
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT:
Some people aren't nervous. It's rare, like really, really rare. 99% of people I work with (even seasoned models) need some time to warm up, or to calm their nerves. But sometimes the model is ready to go -right off the bat. UJ was locked and loaded by the first photo we took. He knew his outcome and that he wanted the best photos possible. He placed his trust in me and my process and consciously decided to let go. No walls, no default smiles, no forceful confidence. UJ was fully present and found a way to quiet that voice we all have in our heads. Maybe the psychedelics helped. ;)
ONE LESSON FROM THIS SHOOT:
When the flow finds you sooner than expected, pay attention and shut the fuck up. The whole point of my process is to get me (and the model) closer to finding flow, but sometimes flow finds us first. In those moments I need to throw out the rest of the plan and ride the wave till she's gone.
