Want Better Selfies? Stop Making This One Mistake

The solution I share in today’s video is so simple that you could start using it right now.

After taking over 700,000 photos of humans I know that the most interesting photos are almost never at the beginning.

👉🏽 The beginning is only for warming up.

In fact, most people quit right as something interesting is about to happen. This is true in photography, in taking selfies, and also true in many other aspects of life.

This principle makes sense on paper, but for some reason most people won’t put it into practice. Instead, they expect the first selfie they take to be a HOME RUN. That’s just not realistic.

Plus, if you expect this you’ll hate taking selfies altogether. Not because you’re unphotogenic, but because you hold yourself to an impossible standard that no professional model, actor or content creator would ever holds themselves too.

And remember that—just like everything else in life—taking selfies gets easier the more you do it. Those first few will likely be the most challenging to look at, but if you keep going I promise it gets way easier.

Happy shooting.

Big love,

D

How To Build Trust In Photos (PART 1)

Did you know that all of my clients need the same thing from their photos? Whether they’re coaches, speakers, artists, authors, or thought-leaders, they all need their photos to build TRUST with their audience so they can continue doing the work they love.

If you want to learn how to build more trust through photography—especially on platforms like Instagram—take a look at this video. It might be a bit hard to hear at first, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, please please PLEASE remember to be gentle with yourself and don’t use this video to be overly critical with your own progress. We are all a work in progress (including me!) and it’s easy to have a blind spot or two. My own feed is far from perfect, but I am growing and sharing more of the REAL Darius all the time.

Sharing our lives with the internet can be an intimidating experience. So go slow and please be kind with yourself.

Big love,

D

21-Day Photo Challenge

Starting next week on Feb 1st, I am launching a FREE 21-day photo challenge. The goal is to inspire all you amazing humans out there to take full advantage of your smartphone cameras. 📸

We will start super slow. There will be an optional journaling prompt that is related to each day’s challenge. There will even be opportunities for me to review your photos and give constructive feedback if you’re up for it.

(The photo review is optional and will be done in a fun and loving way. I promise.)

The goal is to gently build confidence and creative momentum over the course of 21 days.

But also, the other goal is to have FUN!

The cost is $0.00 and EVERYONE is invited. All you need is your smartphone and a journal.
